How do you find a serpentine belt routing diagram? ›

Vehicle manufacturers produce serpentine belt diagrams that are designed to aid with this task. Some vehicles have the serpentine belt diagram located on a decal somewhere in the engine compartment.

One of the earliest signs of a failing serpentine belt is a high-pitched squealing or whining noise, especially during engine startup or when turning the steering wheel. This noise is typically caused by the belt slipping on the pulleys due to reduced tension or deterioration.

Chattering or Squealing Noise: A chattering noise typically indicates a loose or seized pulley, while a squealing noise is a sign of a faulty bearing. Misalignment: Misaligned pulleys will cause belt chirp noise problems and are caused by worn bearings.

The first digit indicates an eight-rib belt, followed by “P” to identify metric belt sizing, and a “K” showing that this belt conforms to the SAE standard for rib sizing (3.56 millimeters wide for automotive-type serpentine belts). The final series of numbers is the effective length of the belt, given in millimeters.
